2007 Astoria Regatta Parade

Move over Eric and Virginia  -  It's Viv's moment in the sun!

Zack and I will be in the 2007 Astoria Regatta Parade on Saturday August 11th.  Wong Long and Vivian (or Vivians if Dana and I both costume up) will ride in style in the open air... uh... no... not in a classic convertable... it's more like a flatbed truck.  All the Vivian wannabes take a "back seat" by riding in a trailer behind the truck. 

The Vivians in the trailer are actually contestants in the 4th Annual Miss Vivian Pub Crawl.  Several local watering holes have nominated a Miss (or Mr) Vivian of their own.  The one with the most votes (and donations) win the title of Astoria's 2007 Miss Vivian.  Some of these establishments in fact had a dark past of being spots where unsuspecting young men were actually Shanghaied at the turn of the 20th century!

I really enjoy playing Vivian.  Unfortunately my first weekend was cut short after the first night due to a sudden and complete case of laryngitis.  Dang!  I have another 4 day weekend and closing night as Viv, so no worries.  The only thing I don't like about playing Viv is having to take off my Dove.  I never take it off, but I figure I'll be forgiven in the name of Community Theater.  :-)

Come to the Shanghaied Costume Ball & Pub-Crawl on August 18th (the day after my sweetie's Birthday and the day of my Mom's 77th B-Day) at The Moose Lodge.  There will be a dance with live bands Dismal Nitch and The BigFish Blues Band.  Food provided by The Schooner Bistro.  There's a Costume Contest complete with prizes!  Oooh!  The Ball is open to all ages - $8 per person or $15 per couple.   The cast of the show on the 18th will have to be "fashionably late" as we'll have to bolt over after the show ends about 10:15.  I'm playing Mama that weekend, but think I'll change into Vivian before we get to the Lodge.
